Lynn Sabourin – 2011

Inducted on April 12, 2011                 Nominated by:  Murray Pearson

Lynn Sabourin was an early and strong supporter of the Club. She was a member of the original Founders Sponsors who contributed money to get the operation off the ground, and time – countless hours of service to the Club. She was the mainstay of the kitchen committee for many years, running the kitchen for bonspiels, and anchoring the Carp Fair breakfast and lunch details. I think she lived at the Club while the Fair was on!

She played an influential role in starting up an early ladies league and Friday night league, curling of course, but demonstrating leadership and patience as she helped develop curling skills in new and existing members. You can imagine that when the Club started, there were not many experienced curlers to take the lead in training, and while Lynn was never a formal OCA trained instructor, she never hesitated to give generously of her time to work with anyone who asked for help.

Symbolic of her passion for excellence and desire to establish HCC as a bonefide curling club, she generously donated the Ray Sabourin trophy for the men’s league. This trophy has morphed over the years into a symbol that now recognizes the Club Champion team, a fitting honour.

Quite frankly, I can think of no one more deserving of this special recognition than Lynn, and I know she would be deeply moved and honoured to receive this recognition.
