HCC Members Shine! HCC has always had a fabulous group of members who have been willing to step forward and help out for the greater good:
Prime examples of this were the 2016 Brier and last year’s “Roar of the Rings” event which was held at the CTC in Ottawa. Many of our club members donated much of their time helping out with various segments of the event and it was a huge success. In fact, Huntley had the second most volunteers at the ROAR. A portion of the gate receipts and 50/50 programs went back to the Ottawa Valley Curling Association (OVCA) as appreciation for local club members giving of their volunteer time. These monies were to be used to provide grants to clubs (HCC received $4,000 earlier this year from the OVCA) and also to provide funding to local area curling clubs within then OVCA to assist with various in club initiatives such as building improvement grants.
In addition to the $4,000 outright grant that HCC received a couple of months ago, we have applied for and received $680 toward the purchase of our Ice Mistress as well as a $5,000 accessibility grant toward the washroom renovations. Other initiatives include a grant of $680 from 50/50 proceeds toward our Youth program, increased funding for teams going to Provincials and Nationals.
Help Welcome a Swedish Ladies Junior Team to our Country and our Club: This Wednesday Oct. 24th 2018, at approximately 4:00pm: A Swedish ladies junior team will be in town to participate in the Junior Superspiel next weekend in Ottawa. They will be playing an exhibition game at HCC this Wednesday afternoon. Game time is between 4 – 4:30 pm. This is a fabulous opportunity for our members to witness world class female curlers right at our facility. No charge. Come out get some pictures and have some autographs signed.
I’m encouraging members of all ages, in particular our youth curlers, to come out and watch.
