** Please read this entire newsletter… get involved in club activities at HCC. The 1st step is to know what is going on.
OVCA – City of Ottawa Mixed bonspiel, Jan. 16th – 19th 2020
This past weekend was a proud moment for HCC and it’s members as (5) five teams from our club displayed their prowess at this year’s OVCA City of Ottawa Mixed bonspiel.
Team Cormier, won (5) five straight games laying claim to the Senior A division championship.
Team McLean, “Ran the gauntlet” playing (7) seven gruelling games but in the end prevailed by staking claim to the Open B division championship.
Team Rodney, lost in the Open A championship game on the final shot. If they’d won HCC would have taken home all three major titles, but like musician Meatloaf said, “Two out of three ain’t bad.”
Team’s Allen & Team Robb had a tremendous weekend as well, competing in the Senior A & B divisions but fell short by losing out in the semi-finals in both divisions.
** There is no doubt in my mind who is the best curling club in the region !! HCC is definitely # 1
** I’ll get pictures posted to the website as soon as they become available.
It was an extremely well-run bonspiel and went off primarily without any major glitches thanks in large part to the organizer, HCC’s own Peter Smith who took care of things behind the scenes.
It’s my hope as president that more of our members get involved in bonspiels outside our club. I’d especially like to encourage our new members in our U-5 program to get involved in the Colts. It’s a fabulous way to develop friendships, chemistry & pride for HCC.
The President’s Challenge, Feb. 8th & 9th 2020 @ HCC
** Major inaugural event
Sign up deadline – Friday, Jan. 24th, 2020, midnight.
As president, I’m reaching out to all members of our club to put a team together and sign up to compete for the President’s Team. There are (4) four divisions from which to choose.
Registration can be done either on-line or by putting your team name on the board within our lounge. Feel free to speak with events manager Peter Smith should you have any questions or need help. It’s open to everyone in our club.
I’d met for a luncheon last Saturday with the other (3) three presidents of the participating clubs, Richmond, Almonte & Carleton Place. It was a bit of a publicity promo so keep an eye out in your local papers and on our website.
I’m really excited to acknowledge that 32 HCC members will be competing for our club in this total points spiel. HCC, in hosting this inaugural event, will be putting it’s best foot forward on and off the ice, thus displaying to the rest of Ottawa’s curling community why we are #1.
This event is not about individuals or a specific team, but our club and it’s entire membership as a whole.
I’m also asking members who are not participating to come out and show support for our President’s Team.
Other Bonspiels… The “Kick-Ass” & “The Mad Hatter” – ** Sold-out !!
The U-3 “Kick-Ass” bonspiel this Sat, Jan 25th, 2020 is full and ready to go!
I’m wishing our HCC teams the best of success as they face-off against teams of other area clubs.
“The Mad Hatter” is also full and ready to go (7) seven weeks in advance.
The Last Rock, April 13th – 19th, 2020
HCC’s year-end Extravaganza ** Open to all members of HCC regardless of age or curling experience.
Mark your calendar now, as this is the not to miss event of the year. It’s an entire week of fun before we close the doors for the curling season. “We’re going out with a bang!”
The committee is making some final adjustments in making it more even more fun before opening up registration in mid-February.
Catering – **POSTPONED**
After much deliberation with conveners and acquiring feedback from members, The Board of Directors has decided to provide our in-house chef/cater, Whitney Toogood, the opportunity to prepare meals for our evening members on Mon/Tues Jan. 27th & 28th plus Thursday, Feb. 6th, 2020. View the menu here.
Final details will be provided by the match director to conveners and members on these evening leagues this week.
Proud moment for the HCC
Long-time members with the HCC, brothers Jordie & Brett Lyon-Hatcher have qualified for the 2020 Ontario Men’s Tankard which takes place in Cornwall.
This is Brett’s 2nd trip. With some luck, we may see them in the Brier in Kingston. We’re happy for them and the entire Lyon-Hatcher family.
Good luck boys !!! Take no prisoners !! Games to be streamed here.
