Return to Play – Jan 31st

The HCC Board of Directors has approved reopening the club for curling activities, effective Monday January 31, 2022. This will be in conformance with the public health guidelines and regulations issued by the Province of Ontario on January 20, 2022.

Members will be permitted to return to curling activities, generally under the same conditions we were experiencing in December 2021. However, there are a few additional conditions which we must all adhere to, which are MANDATED by the Province, as follows:

  • Proof of vaccination against COVID-19 must be shown EVERY time a person enters the club. A new tablet for scanning your Vax QR code will be provided at the entrance for this purpose.
  • Contact tracing must be completed EVERY time a person enters the club. The CurlON tablet presently in place for this purpose will continue to be used to scan your CurlON QR code.
  • Screening for COVID-19 symptoms must be completed before EVERY visit to the club. Please review the Government of Ontario screening protocol.
  • Masks are mandatory within the club. N95 masks are strongly recommended. Use of masks is also strongly recommended, but not mandatory, while curling or sitting at lounge tables.
  • A COVID-19 Safety Plan has been prepared which details the measures the club must conform to in order to provide a safe environment for all members and employees.

New Schedules

Since our curling season has been shortened once again, the Board wishes to maximize the league time available by eliminating scheduled events, to some degree. The Overall Club Schedule has been revised, but is subject to change. League convenors will be re-issuing their schedules to suit.

Changes to Play

We recognize that certain members may be unwilling to return to play, given the potential health risks associated with returning to the club. Thus various teams may have trouble fielding a team on any given day. Rather than forfeiting a match, teams will be permitted to play with only 2 players.

Lastly, sweeping will once again be restricted. Only a single sweeper is permitted at any time, but teams can change sweepers during any rock delivery. Sweeping is still permitted in the house, but a 2-meter distancing requirement will be in effect.

There may be some questions remaining about how to get back to curling, but we will endeavour to keep everyone safe and happy to return to the club.
