And we’re off!

Welcome back to curling!

Long-time members and brand new members have started on the ice as of Thanksgiving weekend, and it all seems to be working so far. Ice conditions are excellent, thanks to Dwayne and Team, and the newly refurbished rocks feel so much better.

This past weekend Lidia and Dave Cormier hosted a Member Clinic on Saturday, where 28 new and newish curlers showed up to receive skilled instruction in the basics as well as details for being competitive. Ten experienced volunteers were on hand to assist, and it all worked out very well. We have already received requests to make this an annual event.

On Sunday we had a Try Curling Open House for members of the public, hosted by Jim Collings. We advertised this and visitors totaled 40 persons, ranging from 8 to 80 years, and 10 skilled member volunteers assisted with instruction. Everyone enjoyed it and we expect to have several of them join our Adult and Youth Learn to Curl programs in January, as well as a few directly into our leagues. This is probably something we should continue every year to bring in new members.

So it’s a great start, and The Board of Directors hopes that everyone enjoys their season.

Halloween Howler

Halloween is fast approaching at Huntley and we are happy to be hosting a Halloween party this year on Saturday, October 29th.

  • Live music played by Zach Martin from 7-10pm
  • Whitney Toogood will be selling appetizers from the kitchen.
  • The Cheshire Cat has donated a 100$ gift card which will be going to the best Halloween costume. So make sure to dress to impress.
  • There will be no cost for this event, we just want to have an enjoyable social night out for the members.

There will be signup board in the main lobby and/or you can email match@old.huntleycurling.ca so that we can get a rough idea of how many people to expect. This is needed for both Whitney to have enough food as well to know if we need an additional bartender.

Practice Ice

We started the season with 130 members hitting the sheets to practice Thanksgiving weekend. We all needed it! Regular League play after the weekend found many members wishing they had attended those practice times, but everyone is finding their curling legs.

If anyone feels they need some additional practice time, email match@old.huntleycurling.ca and Jim will fit you in available space.

Club Jackets

We are still taking orders for the new club jackets. If you are looking to upgrade your look, be sure to check out the samples available in the club. Ensure you get your order in by Friday, October 28th. Email president@old.huntleycurling.ca with any questions.
