$50,000 Ontario Trillium Foundation grant gives Huntley Curling Club a boost

MEDIA RELEASE December 2022

CARP, ON – In October 2021, Huntley Curling Club (HCC) received a $50,000 Community Building Fund – Operating stream grant from the Ontario Trillium Fund (OTF) to support operations that were impacted by COVID-19. With the funding, HCC was able to use the funds to offset increased costs associated with COVID-19 protocols in the 2021-22 season and maintain continuity of operation during a period in which overall membership decreased.

“I am pleased to see provincial grant money in support of the curling club in Carp,” says Dr. Merrilee Fullerton, MPP for Kanata-Carleton. “The club is an important meeting place in the community. It provides a wonderful sports and recreation outlet for many individuals and
families through the winter months.”

During a period when overall social activities were curtailed, HCC was able to provide physical activity and socialization to more than 350 members through senior, adult, and youth programs. The OTF grant enabled operation of the curling club to continue in 2021 and allowed for a safe return to curling for both long standing and new members. Additionally, the grant allowed HCC
to be financially viable in 2021 with continued growth in 2022.

“The Ontario Trillium Foundation grant had a tremendous impact on our facility and members by backstopping our 2021 operation,” said Dan Zanetti, President of Huntley Curling Club. “This gave us the confidence to restart curling after having been shut down the previous season. You literally could not wipe the smiles off people’s faces when they had the opportunity to
participate again in the sport they love.”
