Club Suspending Operations Due to Coronavirus

We have an important message to all HCC members:

After much debate, with deep regret the Huntley Curling Club Board of Directors has decided that the club will cease all further curling and events this season, effective today.

As you are all aware, the concern about spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) has affected everyone, perhaps around the entire world. And right now the problem is very close to home.

The City of Ottawa is being proactive in this issue, and has enacted their Emergency Plan to combat the spread of the virus. Ottawa Public Health has new web content to provide guidance on considering risks and mitigations for events and mass gatherings. Refer to OttawaPublicHealth.ca/Coronavirus for the latest information. Given the situation is fluid, we recommend checking the page daily for updated guidance.

We have a vulnerable demographic as well as at-risk individuals within our club members, and many have already expressed their concern about continuing curling. Some members are simply not showing up to league play already. We cannot guarantee the safety of members if the club remains open for curling, and it does not make sense to continue with club operations if it puts members at risk of contracting the virus.

Thus, consistent with the City of Ottawa declaration about closure of many public venues, the Board feels strongly that it is being proactive and prudent to cease activities within the club. Fortunately we have been able to get through most of the season already. More details will follow concerning determination of league champions, when to remove your belongings from the club, and any other lesser details. The ice plant will be turned off by tomorrow.

At present we have scheduled the AGM for June 2, and will maintain that date for the time being.

We wish you all the best of health !!

“The Club is now closed.”
Although it is not what we want to do, the health and safety of our entire membership is paramount.

@CurlingGeek is keeping a list of closures here if you’re wondering what other clubs are closed.
